I need to get in the habit of communicating. So here we go.
Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.” (John 18:36)
Don’t stop where my header stops. Keep on reading.
If Jesus didn’t want His disciples to fight to preserve His life, would He wants us to fight to preserve ours?
I’m troubled that so many children of God, at least here in the USA, invest so much time thinking about, talking about, criticizing (= grumbling? = gossiping?) civil governmental leadership.
Paul said praying for civil leaders is good and pleasing to God (1 Timothy 2:1-4).
Peter said being subject to civil leaders is the will of God (1 Peter 2:13-17).
Paul said pay taxes because civil leaders are God’s ministers (Romans 13:1-7).
We love to quote “we wrestle not . . .” (Ephesians 6:12) when we have personal conflict, but isn’t it also true about civil government?
If we want change in our civil government, perhaps we should adopt something more like “repent or you will be overthrown by Christ” and “God resists the proud, so if you want His grace, humble yourself so He may freely bless you”.
Hope for redemption isn’t in logic or voter blocks. It’s in beseeching God to move by His Spirit and bring life from the dead. Even in civil government.
Unless the Lord builds the house [or nation – wc], they labor in vain who build. May the Lord be kind and rebuild the ruins of our civil governmental house.
